July 30 Summer timeSummer time in Nor-Cal is precious, in the sense that you have to try really hard to catch the sunshine on the beach side. I was a bit lucky over the past two weeks: the first time I got a clear view of the Golden Gate Bridge while lots of people were tanning on the Baker beach. Can't image last time it was soooooooo cold and foggy out there. Then Santa Cruz last weekend: I checked the weather forecast @ 2PM, which was all good. But it took me nearly two hours to get to there. Apparently, many people know it is rare. Finished reading the last Harry Potter book, the darkest among all. However, the point is that there is a metaphor lies in it: the deathly hallows. The elder wand, which cannot be defeated in a battle; the resurrection stone, which summons the dead spirits to you; or the invisible cloak, which hides yourself from any being. “Why?” asks the confused, surviving waiter amidst the carnage, as the panda makes towards the exit. The panda produces a badly punctuated wildlife manual and tosses it over his shoulder. “Well, I'm a panda,” he says at the door. “Look it up.” The waiter turns to the relevant entry in the manual and, sure enough, finds an explanation. “Panda. Large black-and-white bear-like mammal, native to China. Eats, shoots and leaves.” Eats, Shoots & Leaves: The Zero Tolerance Approach to Punctuation by Lynne Truss |
